Alphabet Drabbles - Firefly - Mal/Simon

Fandom: Firefly
Pairing: Mal/Simon
Rating: PG-13 so far
Disclaimer: not mine, born from the mind of Joss Whedon and taken out for a spin just for fun. I promise to give them back in working order afterwards.
Warnings: none so far.
Author's Note: for [livejournal.com profile] alphabetdrabble, this will be a series of 26 drabbles of 100 words exactly each, using the prompts found here. My first time writing Firefly and signing up for this kind of challenge. Feedback of any kind is always welcome. Good, bad, constructive... I'm open to all. The drabbles will be added to this post as I write them.

ACUMEN

Quickness, accuracy, and keenness of judgment or insight.

***

Mal is a mystery, a book you can’t guess the ending of, no matter how hard you try to read between the lines.

And yet…

River might be a mind reader but Simon can read Mal just as easily, knows what Mal wants, how to push him where nobody wants him pushed. Simon is quick to counteract and fight back, too, can twist everything around and push Mal somewhere else, somewhere darker, deeper, twisted against the sheets of his bunk, breathless and lost like he’s never been before.

When Simon looks at him, Mal knows he has nowhere to hide.

BLOVIATE

To discourse at length in a pompous or boastful manner: “the rural Babbitt who bloviates about ‘progress’ and ‘growth’” (George Rebeck).

***

It had seemed like a good idea, guaranteed to get Mal’s point across, shut Simon up once and for all. Simon had been droning on, listing every single reason why they couldn’t go, why this moon was a bad choice and why he could not, would not let River go. Simon’s lips had been moving, Simon’s voice had been drowning Mal’s thoughts and he’d just reached out, put his finger on Simon’s red and shiny mouth and leaned forward…

Now nursing his black eye and listening to Simon rant, Mal realized that not even a kiss could accomplish the unfeasible.
